Letter of Congratulations

 

　　I am enormously pleased by the initiative of our Chinese friends  to organize the Fourth World Buddhist Forum.All Buddhists need opportunities to meet,to interact,and to plan for the future.Chinese Buddhists will get to know new friends,and foreign Buddhists will get to know Chinese friends.This certainly will enhance peaceful cooperation .

 

　　I am particularly glad that there is an exemplar

y cooperation between the Saṅgha and Buddhist scholars.This cooperation guarantees that Buddhism will prosper and make progress.Monks and nuns need scholars to be taken seriously in the world,certainly in places where the Saṅgha is not numerous.In different cultural areas in the world the Saṅgha has different characteristics,but I see that all Buddhists,all schools,nikāyas ,live together in harmony.This is a fact one has to admire in our present world.The World Forum illustrates this reality.
